01 · The exam

How AP Lit scoring works

AP English Literature and Composition mirrors the AP Lang structure: Section I is 55 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, worth 45% of your score. Section II is three essays in 2 hours — Poetry Analysis, Prose Analysis, and Literary Argument, about 40 minutes each — worth 55%. Each essay is scored 0–6 on a similar analytic rubric, and the composite converts to the 1–5 scale on a yearly curve.

The AP Lit score calculator above applies the same method as our AP Lang tool: official section weighting, switchable estimated curves, points-to-next-score, and a percentile estimate based on the official 2025 distribution (74.1% of students scored 3+). Your practice history is stored locally in your browser.
